Equifax Data Breach - PR Nightmare - 2017 (October 10th 2017)

Image
EQUIFAX PR CRISIS As many of you are well aware of by now (September 14th, 2017), Equifax had a major security breach in July, that they did not notify the public about until August of this year. When signing up to see if you were hacked at the website they recommended, be very careful as they have added a clause which would limit your participation in a class action law suit, which is surely on the way. The company has made a series of PR mistakes along the way- and it's expected they will look after their stock price before taking care of their hacked customers. Educate yourself, and keep an eye on your credit card, and credit reports! Visit the FTC site for more info on the status of this PR Nightmare, hopefully Equifax has a Crisis Management or Crisis Communication team on call 24 hours a day for the next, well, forever! (updated October 10th 2017) Well it looks like the fight isn't quite over for Equifax. It would appear that their beloved CEO and much of their commun...

Image
(updated October 10th 2017) At AMP3 PR we are constantly getting calls from college students and recent graduates who are interested in interning or beginning a career in public relations.  They're all looking for that perfect opportunity to get a foot in the door at a New York PR firm , a place to launch their careers in PR.  With that in mind, please find a list from PR Daily of the "5 signs PR is the career for you." 1. You remain cool under pressure. "From a crisis involving a client to the hotel mailroom losing the press materials for a trade show, PR people deal with the unexpected nearly every day. Sometimes you have to be creative: I was once at an event and looked in the “event bag” to find no tape to hang the signs directing attendees to the sign-in table, event room, etc. After looking high and low for a place to buy some tape and coming up empty, I bought a few packs of gum—the event staff all started chewing and stuck the signs to the...

Vogue: Huge Hollywood Stars Without a Cover

Image
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are on the cover of the April issue of Vogue. Their photo on the largest U.S fashion magazine created quite a stir on social media when the cover photo was released over the weekend.  Many Vogue readers were upset at the choice of West and Kardashian on the cover and I began researching high profile celebrities that have never been on the cover. There have been many actresses, singers and models that you won’t believe haven’t made the cut! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Amy Adams: This gorgeous lady has had an amazing year in movie roles.  She gave a performance of a lifetime in American Hustle, where she wore some beautiful low-cut gowns for her character, Sydney Prosser.  We would love to see her on a cover! 2. Miranda Kerr: It’s hard to believe this famous model has never graced a cover, but it is true.  She has been many magazines for her belove...

The most notable fashion choices of the night were the colorful suits and the prominent color trends of navy and white.  Many of the actors and actresses had a slam dunk for their fashion picks and I did you the favor of compiling them all into this lovely blog post! Lupita Nyong’o The 12 Years A Slave actress paired her first Oscar win with this amazing light blue Prada gown.  The cut and color look flawless on her super toned body, and a headband is the perfect finishing touch! Olivia Wilde Wilde may be 8-months pregnant with her first child, but that didn’t stop her from picking out a stunning black Valentino gown for last nights show! She looks gorgeous on the red carpet pairing her dress with earrings and a white clutch. Sandra Bullock The Gravity star looked so elegant in the silk navy Alexander McQueen gown! Bullock may have missed her ‘Best ...

NYC Restaurant Week Event Changes for Winter 2014

NYC Restaurant Week is a blissful time for frugal New Yorkers and tourists alike.  Many look forward to event, which comes around twice a year in the early winter and summer seasons where restaurants gather together to offer a prix fixe menu at a discounted price.  Restaurant Week has become a popular event and has even expanded to other large cities as well.  Unfortunately for this Winter 2014 season, NYC Restaurant Week has been delayed due to the Super Bowl being held on February 2nd. Many participating restaurants experience a high volume of consumers during the Super Bowl and felt it was necessary to delay NYC Restaurant Week for a less busy period of time. In the past, the promotion began in mid January and this year it will be pushed until mid February. In addition to the delay, NYC Restaurant Week will also be a shortened by a week to increase demand and maximize profits for participating restaurants. The promotion began to draw in consumers during a time wher...

How To Choose A New York PR Firm

If you're in the market for a New York PR Firm , there are a few thing that you should consider... 1. What are your goals from PR? It is important that you know and understand what you're looking to achieve from PR and express these goals clearly to the agency you choose to work with.  It is ok to not know how to achieve those goals, that's the job of the agency, but you must have some sense of what those goals are.  It is also important that everyone be on the same page in terms of what you're looking to achieve. 2. Does your agency understand who you are? When forming a new relationship with a PR agency, you want to make sure that your agency has a clear understanding of your companies background, and history.  Your agency should understand who your company/brand is, where you are now, and where you want to be going.  Over time, the ideal situation is that your agency knows you well enough to feel like an internal part of your organization. 3. Do you unders...

Face to Face Approach

Image
In New York-- you see everything, especially from artists.  From promoting their work on street corners to musicians singing in the subway for a buck.  Attention, attention corporate companies... take note. Like artists, it doesn't hurt companies to spotlight what's going on with an in-person approach as well.  It's wonderful to engage online with consumers visually, but let's have some fun,  show me what you're about.  So back you NY.  People like to see things out of the ordinary, like artists performing.  So how can big companies promote themselves while directly engaging with the public in a sort of performance?  I'll give you two examples.   This past Sunday National Geographic aired "Killing Kennedy."  The T.V. film based on Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard's best seller which had an average of 3.4 million viewers. I'm sure a handful of them had been strolling Broadway last week, to which they would have come across an o...

Is all Publicity Good?

PR stunts go on all the time.  Companies strategically do things to get people paying attention and to start talking.  But what if a plan goes sour?  People are still going to talk but is it good for your company?  They're still talking... right? One of the most notable stunts-gone-wrong was back in 2006 when LifeLock CEO Todd Davis put his social security number on billboards to instigate people into attempting to steal his identity and prove LifeLock's reputation.  The only problem is that his identity was stolen... 13 times to be exact and 87 steals were attempted but failed.  Sorry, guy, but that's just not good publicity.  Even the CEO's life wasn't on lock. Another PR stunt that... melted, was in 2005 and right here in town.  Snapple wanted to show off the worlds biggest popsicle in Union Square.  The only problem: it was mid June and this popsicle didn't stand a chance to the summer weather.  The 25-foot-tall pop began to melt...

I'll have what he's having... Red Bull's amazing PR stunt

This time last year Red Bull created the stunt of all stunts.  Australian skydiver Felix Baumgartner free fell from an altitude of 128,000 feet... the highest free fall in history.  Red Bull has just now, released a video of  "Fearless Felix's" journey to the earth in a nine minute video from his perspective.  The reasoning behind his fall was to break the sound barrier-- he reaches speeds of 844 mph.   Living up to the Red Bull daredevil attitude for sure. Below is a link to Red Bulls Youtube channel and the video.   Baumgartner's Free fall By: Tori

Express Fashion Show On The Streets of NYC

In a clever PR move, Express staged a live fashion show on the streets of the Flat Iron District last night. A 70 foot long runway was erected on Broadway and passersby were invited to come watch the show. With noted Fashion models (Erin Heatherton!! Jessica Hart!!) and photographers (Dan Lecca!! Greg Kadel!!), it was the read deal on the streets of New York. So yes, walking home from work and stumbling upon and being invited to a fashion show is cool. Even cooler is the fact that while photographer Dan Lecca was there shooting the runway show, Greg Kadel was there for an entirely other purpose. He was shooting the runway show...AS THE SPRING AD CAMPAIGN FOR EXPRESS...LIVE!!! That's huge, and the first time it's ever been done, an ad campaign, shot live on the runway, with an audience. Clever, clever, clever. Adding a little social media angle, audience members were encouraged to upload pictures of themselves at the show, the first 15 people won a $100 Express gift car...

Trey Morgans "30 Deeds, 30 Days"

Image
AMP3 PR client and national radio personality Trey Morgan (best known in NYC as the "voice of now" on Z100) has spent the month of September committing himself to volunteering and boy is he tired. It's all part of his 30 Deeds, 30 Days project wherein he is attempting to volunteer each day of September with a different charitable organization (30 total), all while holding down his 'day job' and sustaining his relationship with his wife. Each day, Trey blogs/vlogs on his website www.30Deeds30Days.com about the experience so that he can share with and inspire others to get involved in their communities as well. The idea for 30 Deeds, 30 Days was born out of Trey's own desire to get involved and somehow make a difference. In the past, Trey had thought up getting out there and volunteering before, but like so many of us, he was consumed with his his job, his personal commitments, basically his already full and busy life. It's so easy to get swept up in...

MTA May Limit Monthly Metro Cards, Potential PR Nightmare? I Think So

Image
The MTA is considering imposing a limit on monthly unlimited MetroCards to 90 rides per month (and 21 rides for weekly cards). For every day commuters this may not be an issue (2 rides a day= 62 rides a month) but for many New Yorkers who are more frequent users (working parents, students, dancers, messengers, etc.) they will be very affected and very unhappy. On top of wanting to cut the number of rides you can take on a monthly card, the MTA is also proposing a fare increase from $89 a month to $99 a month. That's a lot of change for New Yorkers who are already paying a fortune to get around the city. These ideas will be proposed next Monday, July 26th and if passed could go into effect as early as next year. These changes could mean a PR nightmare for the MTA which many New Yorkers already blame for mismanaging finances and the already inept MTA system. This would just be one more slap in the face for already frustrated riders. First of all, there would no longer be an unli...

New York Knicks Break Out Clever PR Moves to Sign LeBron James

Image
The New York Knicks are breaking out the big guns in a run to sign soon to be free agent LeBron James for the the coming NBA season. By big guns, I mean all of the New York Knicks celebrity fans that they can get their hands on. The recruiting effort/sales pitch for the coming draft pick will include celebrity endorsements from the likes of Donald Trump, Alec Baldwin, Spike Lee, Tracy Morgan, Chris Rock, and a slew of other well known New Yorkers all speaking about how much they love the city. It's a clever PR move from the Knicks. At 25, LeBron James has his pick of NBA teams, but in the past he has mentioned that he would love to play in NYC. The Knicks could certainly use LeBrons magic as well, as they haven't qualified for the playoffs in over a decade. LeBron would be both very loved in New York (where there would be quite a bit of opportunity here in in business and leisure for him to thrive) and in great company with all of the renowned New Yorkers who reside her f...
